A handled coffee mug hand-carved from a single block of stoneware clay in the spirit of the Japanese art of kurinuki. Many times this clay is recycled leftovers from various projects in the studio and may sometimes even be a mix of different clays, further ensuring the uniqueness of each piece. Each one is then glazed and fired & vitrified to cone 10+ in a gas kiln.
"Grandma's Orchard" is a low coffee mug carved from a block of Black Mountain clay. Smaller than most of our mugs, this one is perfect for a double espresso or smaller cappuccino. Or a warm cup of herbal tea. Finished in a matte warm off-white glaze that shows itself on the inside more than the outside of the mug.
